There will be two evenings, Thursday 3 March and Thursday 10 March at 16:30–19:30. Price ISK 14.500. total for both evenings. Tickets for the course are available on tix.is

Location: Hönnunarsafn Íslands, Garðatorgi 1

For whom: Beginners in embroidery (there is no need to have any base in embroidery)

What is “free embroidery”?

Embroidery where you do not have to count in java / tighten and without the use of a specification – this is a freer embroidery than, for example, hardwood, cloister and various white stitching.

Aim: For participants to acquire a basic embroidery that can be used to decorate various textiles and be able to sew for their own benefit and joy.

What do you need to bring?

Good to meet with your own scissors. Embroidery ring and thimbles if desired (not necessary).

1st time

Participants sew a small sample cloth with seven different embroidery stitches – e.g. leg stitching and french knots – which are useful when sewing freehand.

Inspired by other threads from the Icelandic flora. Review the interplay of colors and materials and how to achieve different textures with different types of embroidery thread.

2nd time

Participants are encouraged to show up with textiles, e.g. an old garment, which could be decorated with embroidery, e.g. on the collar or front of the sleeve lines.
