Hans Jóhannsson, known to many as “Fiðlu-Hansi” (Fiddle-Hans) introduces children and families to his enchanting world of designing and making musical instruments.
Hans makes violins, violas, cellos, double basses and various other stringed instruments. His passion for the violin started at an early age in the workshop of his grandfather Guðjón Halldórsson, a cabinet maker in Reykjavík, Iceland. Hans finished his studies at the Newark School of Violin Making in Great Britain in 1980 and subsequently received a masters diploma from the Icelandic Arts and Crafts council in 1982. He has since made instruments for professional musicians in various corners of the world.
The workshop is a part of a series of monthly events for children and their families, led by a range of designers and craftsmen in different fields. Everyone is welcome and access is free of charge.
