CREATIVEMENDINGWORKSHOPWITHÝR

On Sunday the 7th of march from 12:15–15, textile designer and artist Ýr Jóhannsdóttir (Ýrúrarí) offers a free workshop in creative mending on clothing at the Museum of Design and Applied Art.

The workshop offers tools, materials and room for embroidery, knitting, needle felting, machine sewing and educational material about textile mending. Participants are encouraged to bring clothes they want to fix, change or mend. There will also be sweaters from the clothing gathering of The Red Cross of Iceland that people can make an agreement on taking care off and bring home by the end of the workshop. If participants already have an idea of a mending they want to do they should bring specific yarns, fabric or other materials they want to use.

Participants do not need any former knowledge of textile techniques or experience in mending. If children want to participate they must be accompanied by an adult to help them. Participants need to register for the workshop by email yr@yrurari.com since we only have workspace for 12 people. Everyone is welcome to pop by and have a look.

The workshop is free, there is full accessibility into the workshop room and participants can get help in english and Icelandic.

The project is part of Ýr’s graduation project from the M.Ed program at Iceland University of the Arts.

The workshop will also be offered on:
– Tuesday 9 march 17:30–19:30
– Sunday 14 march 12:15–15
