The Dream Village is an educational project connected to the ongoing archiving of works by architect and designer Einar Þorsteinn Ásgeirsson . During school visits, students in 4th grade in Schools in Garðabær were invited to step into the magical world of this imaginative and experimental pioneer. They learned how he devoted his life to mathematical research, which among other things resulted in a new form — the golden fang — used in the glass façade of Harpa Concert Hall.
After the guided tour and a visit to Jóhanna who is archiving the Einar´s work, the students participated in creative workshops with the design team ÞYKJÓ, where they imagined themselves as architects in a studio who had been assigned a plot of land and a project for that plot. Here, a variety of creations arose: the Hip Hop Concert Hall, a square with fountains and a clock tower, a covered festival area for June 17th celebrations, an apartment building only for girls — with pets on the roof —, places of worship in various shapes and sizes, and playgrounds.
The exhibition will be open through October 30 in Smiðjan, the education space on the second floor of the Design Museum. Visitors can also try their hand at geometry puzzles and browse through the museum’s books and magazines.
