LotharGrund,archivingdrawings

Lothar Grund (1923-1995) was a German set designer who lived in Iceland from 1950 until 1963. During his time in Iceland Lothar worked on theatre sets, graphic design and interior design, including the interior of Hotel Saga for which he designed the rooms and halls between the years of 1961 and 1963.

In 2022 Lothar’s family donated part of his work to the Museum of Design and Applied Art in Iceland, including original design sketches for Hotel Saga as well as advertisement drawings for various companies.

For the remainder of 2023 the museum staff will work on archiving the work. Guests will be able to witness important steps of the archiving process while getting an insight into the work of a brilliantly capable designer.

Those who have further information about Lothar Grund and his work are encouraged to share it with the museum to help us gain a better perspective on Lothar as a designer and person.

Bóel Hörn Ingadóttir will be responsible for the archiving.
