As children, we learn through play, and for many of us, Barbie’s home was the first home we created and decorated. The play itself began with choosing the right dress and accessories so that Barbie could take on her role – the clothes defined the doll.
Barbie is the latest guest at the museum’s permanent exhibition, At Home in the Design Museum, a retrospective display of objects from the Design Museum’s collection, presented within a floorplan of a home.
Barbie has made herself at home in every room of the exhibition – dressed in custom-made clothing designed by a diverse group of Icelandic fashion designers – reminding us that we are never too old to play.
