ThelmaBjörk

Thelma Björk, a fashion and textile designer, has been in residence at the Icelandic Museum of Design and Applied Art  this summer. She will reflect on the work she has created during the residency where she has woven together: craft, history and  meditation with her unique creativity and talent. Her main focus has been a series of chairs that have flourished again through embroidery and a collaboration with upholsterer Ásdís Birgisdóttir. The studio has also become a place for dialogues  since the chairs offer visitors a moment to relax and reflect with Thelma.

The residency gives designers the opportunity to work towards self-defined goals in an open studio environment. Visitors gain insight into the designer’s creative process, engage in conversation with the designer, and can purchase design products directly from them. The residency also provides the museum staff with a unique opportunity for deeper understanding of each designer’s craftsmanship and creative process. The residency lasts approximately three months.
